Welcome to TUG TEC

TUG’s Technical Education program is energized by the partnership with Seneca@York and IBM Partners in Education.

We received splendid feedback from our TEC 2010 conference, held at Seneca@York . Note some of the user comments:
“Love Seneca location and class rooms. So much brighter and better than at the dark conference rooms at the old hotel”
Doreen Hannon, Homewood Health Centre.

Other typical feedback was complimentary to the venue:

“The venue at Seneca/York was perfect – modern facilities, educational environment, etc. Volunteers and staff were very helpful – particularly the student assistants in each session”
John Brenton, Seaway Marine Transport

Here is a picture of a typical Seneca@York classroom.

Each student has access to a client which can be booted up as a Windows, Linux or Linux Cluster client. The systems all provide access to the IBM Power Systems servers on campus, along with requisite software such as Rational Developer for i, System i Navigator etc.

Our approach in 2010 thru 2012 is to build on this relationship and help TUG membership in upgrading  skills and technical vitality. This is particularly important in the shifting IBM iSeries market as well as the tough economy. Our choices in topics are very heavily influenced by extensive market research we have conducted with the TUG membership base. We see plenty of interest in all things Web and Open Source, BlackBerry and other Mobile development as well as upgrading and modernization of base System i skills.

Please look carefully at our Night School offering. This provides an easy, non-intrusive way for TUG members to dramatically upgrade skills and prepare themselves for new challenges without upsetting day-to-day operations. Its like “going back to college”. Attendees will also find the learning capacity significant higher than “on-line” or “do it yourself” web training. Because of the non-profit nature, the price is a FRACTION of what you would pay commercially. Finally, we are fortunate to have some world-renowned, top-level experts be your “professors”.
